There are two types of stress which include acute and chronic stress.
- Acute stress is short-term stress that you experience. For example, if you have a difficult task to complete by tomorrow, you’ll be stressed but once completed, the stress disappears. Therefore it’s a mild stressor and, you can easily manage it. It is the most common form of stress.
- Chronic stress is experiencing stressful situations constantly over a long period without seeking treatment/solutions. For example, if you are in a bad financial situation, money is your stressor and, the lack of it leads to stress. Therefore experiencing this stressor frequently leads to chronic stress since you’re more worried. Also, you are at risk of ulcers, depression, and anxiety.
As for what are some of the symptoms of stress, they include:
- Having sleep problems
- Experiencing aches and pain
- Digestive problems
- Anger and fatigue
The Science on CBD for Stress Relief
When stressed, the hormone cortisol is released while serotonin and other neurotransmitters are reduced; in the brain. Serotonin is responsible for regulating your mood and is; referred to as the happy chemical.
Researchers indicated that serotonin is a neurotransmitter that mediated satisfaction, happiness, and optimism. It is associated with emotional states and, an increase in serotonin level is related to a positive mood.
The stress hormone (cortisol) gives you that extra energy in a fight or flight response. But when your cortisol levels are high your body is on constant alert resulting in chronic stress.
Increased cortisol levels are; linked to stress. Therefore in a study, the effect of CBD on cortisol was, done. Eleven (11) volunteers received CBD at doses of 300 mg or 600 mg. There was a decrease in cortisol levels when CBD; was taken. Therefore this suggests that CBD interferes with cortisol secretion.
